Robert Brockhaus is a solicitor specialising in criminal law. He defends and advises in criminal proceedings as a solicitor of choice and court-appointed solicitor. His areas of expertise include offences relating to freedom of expression and confidentiality, whistleblowing, commercial criminal law and criminal constitutional law. Before joining the firm, he worked as a solicitor at a renowned Berlin criminal law firm, where he mainly dealt with commercial criminal proceedings.Robert Brockhaus holds a doctorate in criminal law, has taught at the European University Viadrina and Humboldt University in Berlin, and conducted research during a research stay at Middlesex University in London. His dissertation, ‘Geheimnisschutz und Transparenz’ (Confidentiality Protection and Transparency), was awarded the 2023 Fritz Bauer Study Prize for Human Rights and Contemporary Legal History and the 2024 Joachim Georg Darjes Prize. Robert Brockhaus was born and raised in Berlin. He studied law at the University of Potsdam and the Free University of Berlin. He completed his legal training in Berlin and Belgrade.
He regularly writes articles on criminal law for specialist journals, commentaries, anthologies and online media, and contributes to publications as an editor. He has worked as an editor for criminal law and public security law at Verfassungsblog.Robert Brockhaus is a member of the advisory board for both the No SLAPP contact point and the Verfassungsblog. He is a member of the Association of Berlin Criminal Defence Lawyers (Vereinigung Berliner Strafverteidiger*innen e.V.), the Republican Lawyers’ Association (Republikanischer Anwältinnen- und Anwälteverein e.V., RAV) and Transparency International Germany (Transparency International Deutschland e.V.).

Dr. Vivian Kube, LL.M.
Solicitor Dr. Vivian Kube specialises in freedom of information law, the rights of politically active civil society, strategic litigation and policy advice, and the defence of fundamental and human rights.She has many years of experience (both international and national) in working with and advising human rights organisations and networks and in the creative use of legal means.She also works in the legal team of FragDenStaat (a project of the Open Knowledge Foundation e.V.), a non-profit association that promotes freedom of information. Previously, she worked for the Society for Civil Rights, where she was responsible for the project ‘Civic Space – Defending Civil Society’. After completing her studies, she took part in the Young Lawyers Training Programme at the European Centre for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR).At the European University Institute in Florence, she conducted research for her PhD on EU investment law, human rights and civil society participation in trade relations, and taught human rights, international economic law and critical legal practice. During her legal clerkship, she worked for the Left Party parliamentary group in the German Bundestag, the parliamentary committee of inquiry on Breitscheidplatz, the Federal Foreign Office and the pro bono department of a large commercial law firm in Hamburg, Paris and Samos.
Dr Vivian Kube studied law in Hamburg and Leiden, Netherlands, and works in both German and English. She is a member of the Republican Lawyers’ Association (RAV), the German Lawyers’ Association (DJB) and innn.it. As chair of the Offene Tore e.V. association, she volunteers her support for the Freiheitsfonds project, which campaigns for the abolition of ‘fare evasion’ as a criminal offence. She is also co-editor of the RAV InfoBrief and publishes in various media outlets such as Der Spiegel, the Süddeutsche Zeitung and the Verfassungsblog.

Dr Benjamin Lück is a solicitor specialising in press, copyright and media law.Before joining the firm, Benjamin Lück conducted research on intellectual property registers at Humboldt University in Berlin, taught German civil law at a Parisian university for several years, and worked as a solicitor at a Berlin commercial law firm specialising in press and media law, intellectual property law, and art law. Benjamin Lück studied law in Freiburg, Istanbul and Berlin and completed his legal training in Berlin, including placements at the Federal Ministry of Justice and Consumer Protection. As a solicitor, he advises media outlets and journalists, NGOs, companies and private individuals on the enforcement of copyright claims, issues relating to freedom of expression and the drafting of contracts. He regularly publishes articles in specialist journals and (online) publications and teaches as a lecturer at the Technical University of Berlin.In addition to his work at our law firm, Benjamin Lück works at the Society for Civil Rights, where he focuses in particular on the issues of press freedom, the regulation of large online platforms and digital violence.

Solicitor Hannah Vos specialises in public law and primarily deals with the enforcement of rights to access information and press law claims.She studied law in Berlin and New York City. During her legal clerkship, she completed placements at the Federal Ministry of Justice in the Department for Foreigners and Refugee Law, at a law firm specialising in administrative law, in particular civil service law, and at the German Embassy in Accra, Ghana. Both before and after her legal clerkship, she also worked in large law firms operating nationwide in the field of public law. In addition, she worked for several years as a judge in Berlin, specialising in administrative and criminal law.Since the beginning of 2021, she has been working at the Open Knowledge Foundation Germany on the FragDenStaat project, and since April 2022 as head of the legal team. There, she handles strategic lawsuits in the field of freedom of information law and supports FragDenStaat’s research and campaign work from a legal perspective.She is co-editor of the Handbook on Freedom of Information Law and publishes on freedom of information topics in various media. She collaborated on the civil society draft for a federal transparency law and served as an expert advisor to the Saxon state parliament.
As a solicitor, she primarily handles cases relating to information access law, but also general administrative law.She is a member of the board of the Offene Tore e.V. association, which runs the Freedom Fund project.

David Werdermann, LL.M.
David Werdermann is a solicitor specialising in freedom of information, administrative and constitutional law.David Werdermann studied law in Freiburg and Manila, Philippines. After completing his studies, he completed his legal training at the Federal Anti-Discrimination Agency and the Federal Constitutional Court in the department of the Court President Prof. Dr. Andreas Voßkuhle (including parliamentary law, public service law, and petition law). After completing his legal training, he earned an international Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. As a solicitor, he advises and represents media outlets, academics, NGOs, companies and private individuals in the enforcement of rights to information and access to files, in administrative law and in proceedings relating to freedom of expression. He is also an expert in constitutional law, has already drafted several constitutional complaints and has argued cases before the Federal Constitutional Court.In addition to his work at our law firm, he works at the Society for Civil Rights, where he deals in particular with the issues of surveillance and policing. He regularly publishes articles on these and other topics in specialist journals and (online) magazines. He has also served as an expert advisor to the German Bundestag, the North Rhine-Westphalia state parliament and the Berlin House of Representatives.
